A wee dander with ............. Eimear Considine - Grabbing Irish Rugby with both hands
It is not often a GAA club website has a full section devoted purely to a family, or to be more precise, the two sisters Considine (Eimear & Ailish). To have such an accolade highlights the immense pride the Kilmihil club have for it's famous daughters and how respected they are within the local community.
Ailish is off enjoying Aussie Rules for Adelaide Crows in Australia, and Eimear is establishing herself not just as a teacher, but also as an International rugby player, pundit, analyst and now podcaster. There appears little she cannot turn her hand to proving to be extremely versatile and a hugely positive person, particularly when it comes to trying new things, letting her natural intelligence and adaptability come to the fore.
Hailing from Co Clare, Eimear showed from a young age her talent for Camogie and football, having a great grounding from her father Cyril and Mother Kay. It is obvious how much her family means to her and that anchor point keeps her focus alongside an emotional base to build from.
She came to rugby late but was unafraid of the challenge and simply worked to adapt yet now has stamped her authority on the women's game in Ireland. Eimear is one of the hardest working sportspeople in Ireland, working a full time job as a PE & Irish Teacher in Glasnevin, but also training extensively for Bohs, Munster and Ireland. Allied to that she manages her punditry, analysis and podcasting career showing her drive, commitment and steadfast pursuit of her goals. Her belief in maintaining Irish as an important part of our culture is a flag to her roots and the enthusiasm given means her pupils will not be starved of conversational topics.
She came from a very close family and learned from her mum that you can only control the controllables, then try and take the good out of a bad situation. She has a great network of support, superb family and friends, and realises how amazing it is to do the things she does. Her mum Kay has a great saying for them 'Be as good as your mammy thinks you are'. She advises people to focus on having a goal in life and a direction. Keep busy, keep focused and have goals. It is a simple yet hugely effective message.
Her mum is her rock and obviously a great inspiration for Eimear, but there is an obvious pride in her siblings and her local community. Eimear empathizes with others as is shown by her spearheading the 'Tackle your feelings' campaign which is a about taking control of your emotions, managing yourself and managing life's stresses, anxieties and struggles. The message tries to encourage you to be proactive about mental wellbeing and attempt positive psychology. Be grateful, acknowledge positive relationships and write down a few things about that, to remind yourself of it. Log your processes and goals for the week whether that be self care, taking time for yourself or extra mindfulness and mediation. The app has all the resources for that. Make your notes and take your own journal which is personal to you and review from time to time. Looking after your mental and physical health lies centrally to Eimear's message.
Eimear speaks eloquently, easily and with common sense. She appears calm and relaxed both in front of the cameras and in the studio, and it this combination which makes her such a valuable asset to the media organisations she moonlights for. It is Eimear's adaptability and attitude to new experiences that are extremely impressive. She embraces these opportunities and drives them forward. She shrugs off her negative experiences, uses those emotions for a positive effect. Being physically fit helps being mentally fit and thereby helps to manage your stress levels.
Listening to Eimear's wisdom floods you with a myriad of sensible take home advice. To her being nervous is a waste of time as long as you should never doubt yourself when the work has been put in. Make the effort to manage your emotions and keep doing the things you know are correct and right as they will help in the long term. Use setbacks as a spur, and to drive on which subsequently improves mental toughness and concentration on the training field. Buy into the systems, improve as eventually you will have reached the stage where you are not building foundations but accentuating the accumulated skills and systems. This enhances confidence in your team squads and yourself as a person. The squad improves as you trust all the members within in, and they see that trust and respond to it. Have no excuses, look at yourself in the mirror and be resilient. Look to improve yourself first before others as that will naturally follow. Be resilient, it is this resilience that will get you through the tough times and improve you. Most of all, have belief in yourself - if you do all that you can do then there are no regrets.
As a natural talker, her voice has a calm reassurance and resonates with an upbeat, happy tone which instantly soothes and gives you confidence in that what she says is both doable and sensible. She speaks like someone who holds no fear of anything with an easy air and fun nature - 'The Eimearnator!' Her advice is always straightforward and given with no delivery of ambiguity of said message. Truly Eimear is someone our youngsters should be aspiring to with great deeds, exuding positivity and always excited at what possibilities life can present.
